Purchasing Manager for Korean Expats – Steel/Metal (Suzhou, PRC)

Company & Industry Introduction

Our client is a KOSDAQ-listed global manufacturing group specializing in advanced communication equipment, metal processing, semiconductor systems, energy storage components, and automotive parts. With extensive operations across Asia, including large-scale manufacturing hubs in Vietnam and a growing presence in China, the company supplies high-precision structural components for major global OEMs in telecom, mobile, and industrial markets.

As part of its strategic expansion, the company is now seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to join its Suzhou office and act as an expatriate representative supporting procurement activities across key categories.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage sourcing and procurement for: Steel materials / Sheet metal and die-cast components / Fasteners (bolts/nuts) / Electrical and circuit parts
  2. Identify and develop new suppliers, especially for project-specific REQ (request) needs
  3. Conduct BOM (Bill of Materials) analysis and lead independent procurement development
  4. Work cross-functionally with HQ teams in Korea and local Chinese suppliers
  5. Represent the company as an on-site expatriate liaison within the Suzhou branch office

Required Qualifications:

  1. Solid experience in steel or metal materials procurement (mandatory)
  2. Proven ability in new supplier sourcing and vendor development
  3. Strong skills in BOM analysis and independent part development
  4. Business fluency in Chinese or English + Korean
  5. Bachelor’s degree preferred, but education level is not a key factor

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Previous expatriate or China-based work experience
  2. Knowledge of trade operations and purchasing documentation
  3. Project Management experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment

Employment Terms:

  1. Assignment Type: Korean expatriate contract (direct hire by HQ)
  2. Compensation: Base salary + per diem (approx. $60/day)
  3. Housing: Company-leased accommodation provided
  4. Relocation: Moving expenses supported
  5. Schooling: Not provided
  6. Taxation: Local Chinese income tax borne by the employee on China-based earnings
  7. Team Setup: Suzhou office currently has 4 staff, expanding to 9 by year-end
